Description
Full mission name: METHANE-To-Go - Nord Stream
Description:
Several leaks were detected on 26 and 29 September 2022 in the two gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2, releasing large quantities of natural gas. Natural gas mainly consists of the greenhouse gas methane. In cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), a team from DLR, TU Braunschweig and other partners was able to launch this field campaign at very short notice. They used the HELiPOD helicopter-borne trailing probe, equipped with a wide range of equipment for atmospheric measurements. During two helicopter flights from Kolobrzeg at the Polish coast methane concentrations were measured in the vicinity of the pipeline leaks over the Baltic Sea on 5 October 2022.
