Description:
Meteor smoke particles in the middle atmosphere have an impact on the gas and ion composition. Furthermore, they may act as nuclei for the formation of water ice clouds in the mesosphere and aerosols in the stratosphere, which have an impact on ozone and climate. In order to investigate charged meteor smoke particles, the rocket-borne ion mass spectrometer ROMARA was launched from Andoya (Norway) during conditions of polar mesospheric winter echos, a radar effect possibly related to meteor smoke particles.
