The State University of New York at Albany, commonly referred to as University at Albany, SUNY Albany or UAlbany, is a public research university with campuses in the New York cities of Albany and Rensselaer and the Town of Guilderland, United States. Founded in 1844, it is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. From better understanding and prediction of extreme weather events to advanced climate studies and climate impacts, UAlbany’s Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences offers some of the most sophisticated academic programs in atmospheric and environmental sciences in the U.S. Faculty in the Department carry out a wide range of research, organized under three main topics: Synoptic and Mesoscale Meteorology, Climate and Environmental Systems, Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics.
