Data source: instrument SID3

Properties

Name Small Ice Detector Mk 3
Acronym SID3
Description SID3 (developed and issued by the University of Hertfordshire, UK) captures the spatial light scattering pattern of individual cloud particles in the 6 to 25° angular range. SID3 uses an intensified camera to get high-resolution (780 x 582 pixel) images of these scattering patterns. Detailed microphysical properties of small ice particles like crystal shape and surface roughness can be inferred from the patterns. Light scattering patterns are acquired with a rate up to 30 Hz. For all other particle events (up to 9 kHz) the trigger light scattering signal is analyzed to count and size particles in the ~ 1 to 50 µm size range. http://www.imk-aaf.kit.edu/
